FAQ

Purpose

What is positive discipline?

Positive discipline refers to relationship-based strategies that teach to the need rather than punishing for it.

What are the benefits and/or outcomes of using positive discipline methods with children?

Positive discipline strategies are associated with many favorable outcomes namely children with higher academic achievement, fewer behavior problems, less substance use, better mental health, greater social competence, and more positive self-concepts.*

Why is play so important?

Research tells us that play is the superhighway to learning. Many of us as adults struggle to connect with our playful sides, but once we do it unlocks tons of potential for connecting with our children. Learn more.

Why is emotional intelligence important?

Research shows that emotional intelligence is the strongest predictor of a child’s future happiness and success. Children aren’t born knowing how to regulate their emotions, any more than they’re born knowing how to tie their shoes. People of all ages benefit from having social and emotional skills nurtured in daily, playful ways, reinforcing the science of mindfulness, attachment, and play.

Will Generation Mindful products improve my child’s behavior?

Strengthening children's social-emotional skills improves their focus, self-control, self-expression, empathy, resilience, listening, cooperation and more. By affirming empowering belief systems, and strengthening life-skills in predictable and playful ways, our products nurture the four components of emotional intelligence, addressing the emotions that exist underneath the behavior.

For more on the outcomes of using our products, please refer to the product reviews our community has shared online. The results are transformation. For example, one family went from daily tantrums to just one in an entire month by simply adding PeaceMakers to their morning ritual.

PeaceMakers

What are PeaceMakers?

PeaceMakers are a friendly pack of peaceful animals that represent seven themes: Power, Joy, Balance, Love, Peace, Intuition and Forgiveness. Featured throughout the Time-In ToolKit materials, the PeaceMakers help children and adults connect and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings in daily, playful ways.

How long does it take to play PeaceMakers?

On average, 5-15 minutes. Families, kids’ yoga classes, classrooms and therapy groups are playing with PeaceMakers every day.

How many people can play?

From as few as two to a classroom of 25 – groups of all sizes can enjoy a game of PeaceMakers.

What ages are the PeaceMakers designed for?

Children ages 3-10 are the biggest fans of the PeaceMakers, but it can be enjoyed by anyone. Expecting parents, teen therapy groups and adult children with their aging parents have used the cards to make mindful connections.

Time-In Toolkit

Why is “Time-In” better than Time-Out?

Though punishment-based discipline may lead to short-term compliance, it does not enhance moral behavior nor does it teach children useful conflict-resolution skills.** While often well-intended, punitive childrearing practices fail to address the underlying cause of a child's "mis"-behavior and are usually ineffective in accomplishing the goals of discipline: to change behavior and build skills.***

Neurologically speaking, the behaviors we are looking for from children are easier for them to practice when they are feeling powerful, safe and connected. Connection builds compliance.
